Newyork Memories

Posted by Thejesh GN On March - 21 - 2009

It was may 2005 when my college friends planned for NY, WDC and Niagara drive. It was one week long trip along with my buddies. I never wrote about that trip other than sharing few pictures with my friends. (Which reminds me, I have to write about Rome and Hampi. I will, very soon.)
I was in Milwaukee then, I caught my flight to NYC. It was my first trip to *the big* city. I still remember how excited I was. I have some pics below. I am not going to write complete story but will add a short note below each picture.

New york city in the night from the top of Empire State Building. I amazed with the quality of picture taken by a low end sony cybershot. I guess that is Metropolitan Life Tower in the picture.

Technology or Management?

Posted by Thejesh GN On March - 17 - 2009

Engineering until IT came into India was completely *technical*. I have not seen any engineer of my fathers generation doing *only* managerial work. There used to be project managers then too, but they used be part time managers and full time technicians.

With IT boom in India, we got a new breed of managers. IT-Managers or so called PMs, SPMs etc. I am not going get into their job profile or their job description but all I want to say is they were different from previous managers we had seen in *technology* field.

In this setup, natural progression for every developer was to, turn into manager after x years. But there were anomalies in the system all the time. They were always confused..

RSS Feed for Aamir Khan’s blog using YQL and Pipes

Posted by Thejesh GN On March - 9 - 2009

As you know earlier I had parsed Aamir Khan’s Blog to create a feed. It was custom screen scraping code to generate the feed.Today, after reading Anand’s blog, I did the same using YQL and Pipes. Using YQL/PIPE is much easier than writing custom code and is less buggy.

If you have subscribed to http://feeds.thejeshgn.com/aamirkhan then, you don’t have to worry. The feed url remains the same only the technology behind has changed. Now we have a better technology. If you have not subscribed, I guess its a good idea to subscribe.

The post below is for fellow hackers. I have tried to write a detailed post on the process I followed and technologies I used. Read the rest of this entry »

Amazing Cave Temples of Badami

Posted by Thejesh GN On March - 6 - 2009

Badami Cave temples are man made rock cut temples built in North Indian Nagara Style and South Indian Dravidian style. Badami was the capital of early Chalukyas until eight century is in between mountains and lakes. The cave temples are cut out of the mountains.

town lake You can see the town lake in this picture and also a temple near by. On the top of the picture you can see brown mountains. Cave temples are carved out of it.

All around the city you can see temples. There are small temples on the mountains and rocks that surround the town.

Even though there are many temples, Badami is known for its ancient cave temples carved out of the sandstone hills above. There are four temple caves. The temples look simple compared to any other Chalukya styled temples. Read the rest of this entry »

What is My Political Ideology or View?

Posted by Thejesh GN On March - 5 - 2009

Its very surprising that I haven’t written much about politics in last five years. I am as much interested in politics and history as I am in technology. I have been thinking about this post on my political philosophy from long time. But was lazy enough not to write about it until today. The time could not be better than the announcement of 15th Lok Sabha Elections.
In most of the discussions with friends, I end up facing the question about my political philosophy. Which one do I believe in? Its a very difficult question to answer as I don’t believe in any one philosophy. I am not completely leftist or right. Neither I agree with authoritarian nor I am supporter of freedom with out responsibility. I am sure a believer secularism but keep myself away from intellectuals. So where do I stand?
