Time has always been of great interest to me. Once I started working with developers around the world, time-zones became much more important. GMT is naturally the reference to any time zone. Like IST is +5.5GMT.

So Greenwich as soon as my friend told me about it. I was all in. Greenwich has the Royal Observatory overlooking river Thames on a hill in Greenwich Park. prime meridian (longitude 0, check the picture below) passes through Royal Observatory. It’s from here ( prime meridian, Greenwich) the time is measured. You can see the clock running GMT above. If you have a smart phone then start plain vanilla GPS app and check UTC time. It’s almost equal to GMT. The difference between UTC and GMT is below 0.9 seconds. GMT is also called as Universal Time (UT).

After struggling with BSNL customer service for a long time, I am out now. I have a reliance netconnect again. This time its cheaper and better. Like any early adopter I had a netconnect in 2008. It was expensive, slow and had struggle to connecting on Linux. No wonder my tutorial got page views. I stopped using their service in 2009.

This time around it was easier. I had to connect to a windows PC (to download linux installer which wasn’t view-able on Linux for some reason) and copy the files off USB modem/drive :(

Install it on my Ubuntu. Then just run the executable and I am connected. That was easy.

Good to see device manufacturers supporting Linux OS officially at last.

Pictures from my first ride on Namma Metro which opened yesterday. Most of them are goofy pics of myself and Mathang. We are just happy that metro is here. Pictures were taken on my broken phone so don’t expect good quality.

The message came through mail. This paragraph from Steve’s commencement address at Stanford flashed my mind.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

I am sad. Nothing else to say. Make best use of your time.
