2018 – Nagarathna Memorial Grant Results

My mother passed away on 14 April, 2016. She was a teacher. She came from a poor family, struggled throughout her youth to reach where she reached. She was very successful in her personal and professional life. So I thought it would be a good idea to setup a micro grant in her memory. I thought micro grant would be enough money for someone to do something they love. With lots of hesitation and doubt 1, I announced Nagarathna Memorial Grant on twitter. All hesitations and doubts faded away in a day. Thanks to everyone who called, messaged, tweeted. It's encouraging and makes me happy.

Tomorrow was the last day to accept. I got all acceptance emails last week. Today is a good day to announce. So here we go

Name

Amount
Vasundhara Social Welfare Society 40,000
IndSciComm 25,000
Banwasi Seva Ashram 10,000
Kid in our neighborhood 5,000

Thanks to all the grantees for accepting2. A huge thank you to everyone who applied.

I got more applications than I expected. Filtering them took time as I didn't have any particular criteria when I started. I increased the total grant money to ₹80000 3 to accommodate more. . So next year I will make announcements on this blog and send emails unlike this year. Also will start a RD account so I can save more than ₹80000. Let's see how it goes.

  1. Now you know why there was no announcement blog post
  2. Money transfer will happen as per email sent. Thank you
  3. Original idea was ₹65000 == $1000
