Mallige and Kedage

Probably the oldest fonts out there. You can get them from Brahmi website or as a package on your Linux distro.

Noto Sans and Serif Kannada

Google has been developing a font family called Noto, which aims to support all languages with a harmonious look and feel. Noto is Google’s answer to tofu. The name noto is to convey the idea that Google’s goal is to see “no more tofu”. Noto has multiple styles and weights, and is freely available to all. The comprehensive set of fonts and tools used in our development is available in our GitHub repositories.

Noto Sans Kannada and Not Serif Kannada are part of this project.

Noto Sans Kannada UI

The UI fonts were initially prepared for use in Android’s UI. They have tighter vertical metrics, and some glyphs that would be clipped are redrawn to fit within the constrained space. They can be used anywhere that has limited vertical space. There are no UI verions of scripts that do not need such adjustment, and the non-UI versions should be preferred for use in body text.

Baloo Tamma

Baloo is a distinctive heavy spurless design with a subtle tinge of playfulness and all the bare necessities of type. Snuggling several scripts under a single weight, the typeface focuses on giving equal justice to every act of this gentle jungle affair to secure single and multi-script use. Carefree yet confident, warm yet entertaining, sprightly yet intelligible, Baloo infuses life everywhere it goes.

The Baloo project develops ten separate fonts with unique local names for each of the ten Indic Scripts. Each font supports one Indic subset plus Latin, Latin Extended, and Vietnamese.

Benne ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ

Benne ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ is a Kannada text font developed by John Harrington. Benne will be available via Google Fonts.

Design considerations This typeface was designed to meet the needs of enabling better digital reading experiences in the Kannada script. The lack of suitable Kannada typefaces results in either poor reading experiences or transliteration of content into Latin script.

Hubballi

Hubballi is a Kannada and Latin typeface designed by Erin McLaughlin. Hubballi is a monolinear typeface with an informal, friendly appearance. It was created by drawing a skeleton form in RoboFont that was then expanded via the "Outliner" extension by Frederik Berlaen. It is my intention to expand the design to additional weights, due to the relative ease of the skeleton/Outliner workflow.

Gubbi

Kannada Unicode font - Gubbi, project forked from Kedage to fix the issues. Source code is available on Github. It's by Aravinda.

Navilu

Kannada Unicode font - Navilu, project forked from Mallige to fix the issues. Source code is available on Github. It's by Aravinda.

Lohit

Lohit is a font family coveres Indic scripts. It's released by Red Hat. You can download them on Fedora Project site or Fedora Pagure.

Akaya Kannada

Akaya is a single weight experimental display typeface in Kannada, Telugu and Latin scripts. Akaya Kanadaka supports the reformed Kannada character set. The language support therefore extends to contemporary Kannada and basic Sanskrit. The peculiarities of minority scripts that use the Kannada script in contemporary use, like Tulu and Konkani, are not yet supported fully and Akaya will be extended once they are accepted and updated.
