Over the years, many friends have supported the NMG Grant. An organic process has evolved, and it has proven to be simple and efficient. This note documents the process for everyone’s reference.
Table of Contents

Roles
- Supporter: An individual who contributes funds to support one or more grantees as part of NMG.
- Grantee: An individual or organization selected to receive the NMG Grant.
- Coordinator: The grant coordinator who manages matching and introductions. Currently that’s only me.
Process
- In Jan/Feb/Mar, Supporters confirm by sending an email to me with the following details
- The amount they wish to contribute
- How they want to be credited
- Full name (their own, pets, or a friend’s/family member’s)
- Initials or pseudonym
- Anonymous
- I update that year’s announcement blog post with these supporter details
- In April
- I finalize the list of grantees.
- A results announcement is published.
- Each grantee must confirm acceptance by email.
- I match supporter funds to specific grantees, usually by matching the amount
- Fund matching is flexible
- A supporter may split funds across multiple grantees.
- A grantee may receive funds from multiple supporters.
- I introduce the supporter and the grantee over email.
- The supporter transfers funds directly to the grantee.
- I remain in the email loop as a coordinator.
- The transfer is peer-to-peer personal gift from supporter to grantee
- If the grantee is an organization, they issue the receipt to the supporter
- This completes the process
- For any questions, please join the public discussion group or contact me directly.
First step
Send me an email anytime of the year. There is no specific format. Introduce yourself. You can also include the amount you would like to support with if you already know. If you are not sure, that is fine too. Just send me an email; we can take it further.
Endnotes
- If you choose anonymous public credit, the grantee who receives your support will still know who you are and the amount you contributed.
- If there is any change, I’ll update this page. Last updated on .
