Weekly Notes 52/2024
Welcome to the last week of 2024. It's been a good week. I got most of the planned work done and got some rest. It's strange, but when I get the job done, my rest feels more real. It could be because my mind rests well when things are done. Anyway, as a preparation for ending the year, I went through all of my 2024 task lists and closed or moved them. There are a few essential things that I have not closed in 2024. Hopefully, I will get to them in 2025. They are not urgent, but they are important.
- The return from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur on Saturday was tiring. The traffic was crazy; the drivers weren't friendly. Forget friendly; they were very rash and rude. So, for 300+ km, we took about 9.5 hours. The best part of the drive was a break for an awesome dose, egg curry, and kadala at roadside chai shop. Uma was mostly cheerful, as usual.
- I will be in Chennai at IITM in Jan, from 22nd (Wed) till 25th (Sat). I am unsure where we will stay, but I will work out of IITM during the day. So, if you are in Chennai, we can meet for breakfast or dinner.
- A belated Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you. We will be in Thrissur for the new year, too. We like spending holidays here, but it also means we don't get to put up a Christmas tree in Bengaluru. Maybe we should celebrate early Xmas in Bengaluru.
- Like last year, we could attend the local temple festival this time, too. Uma likes music and watching people. So it's perfect.
- Calendars or Date timekeeping is not easy. Though most of us, regular engineers, don't think about it often, even simple decisions like the timezone of a datetime column in the database are debatable and highly controversial. We are in Week 52 of 2024. I follow the ISO Week Number; the logic of how they are numbered is also interesting. I also started making notes for the year-end post.
