Weekly Notes 34/2025

Today, I took time to attend Anveshana Showcase 2025 at Prayoga. The plan was initially to attend the presentations by students who were part of NMG/2025 grantees group. But then I also got to know my niece was also presenting at the same event as part of another group. Unrelated, but what a good surprise. I will write about the showcase itself in another blog post. For now, all I have to say is it was lots of fun and worth the very long drive, and spending the whole day on a weekday.

  • It was a long weekend, so Bangalore was quiet and generally fun. We went to lunch at Kopitiam Lah on Saturday.
  • Taxes are in the process of getting done. I also reviewed and reworked my mutual fund SIPs as part of my yearly ritual, along with my term insurance and health insurance coverage. I usually increase them a bit based on inflation and my ability to afford them. I do it along with taxes, so I don’t forget it. The plan itself has not changed much in years.
  • I wrote a Guide to Typing Kannada with Optitrans v2 for my reference. It’s the keyboard layout/transliteration that I have settled down for typing Kannada on a desktop. I will add more corner cases and examples as I go.
  • If you live/work in Bengaluru. Please help me by participating in and sharing this one-question survey. Bengaluru – Where Do You Work From?. We are currently at 350 survey submissions. We need at least 600 responses for decent results, and 1000 would be even better. I will start publishing the results and data once we cross 600.
  • Uma’s school schedule is now from 9 AM to 11 AM. And I don’t have to wait for her. I can go later to pick her up. Parenthood has been an enjoyable experience, making me unlearn and relearn things. Of course, it’s a lot of work, but how do you find good fun without putting in effort?
  • We have 101 bloggers in blogring now. The majority of them are from a Tech background. I am looking for non-tech bloggers now. If you have suggestions, please send them to me. That said, send bloggers who write with strong opinions, even if they are tech.
  • A few folks who are alive but termed dead by ECI and removed from the voter list as part of the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls months before the election turned up in the Supreme Court. Jolly LLB (Hindi, 2013) style. EC’s Lawyer termed it as drama, but it’s life, and they are alive. Finally, SC compelled the EC to publish all 65 lakh deleted voters’ details, allowing people to verify and analyze them. I think the EC is losing trust slowly due to its actions, which is bad for democracy. Once the trust in institutions erodes, fascism settles down without any challenges.
