I recently contributed some imagery to the panoramax project. It’s like Street View but is open and free. Then I saw that the panoramax exposes STAC APIs. I wanted to know more about STAC, which led me down a rabbit hole.

Zigbee at Home

I want to use and run many small battery sensors across the home. Wifi would have worked, but battery-powered sensors make them portable and usable. Also, I would like to keep small sensors out of my wifi network for security reasons. Zigbee is the ideal candidate for this.

How to Create and Issue Open Badges

Badges are ubiquitous on the web. Any website that has some social component has badges. Audible gives you badges based on your listening. StackOverFlow gives you badges based on your participation etc. The problem with these badges is that they are not portable and not verifiable. For example, if you are on a site where you want to show or prove the badge that you have acquired on StackOverFlow, then it’s not possible. OpenBadge solves this.

Sending Email to Self with Swaks

Email is one of those protocols that still works. It reaches me where I am. It also has various clients and libraries that work reasonably well. And it can carry almost any kind of content (Of course, there are limitations attachment size and type, etc). I use it every day, including emailing to myself.

Creating an eBook like The Dog We Stole

Anju published The Dog We Stole (Amazon ebook link) as a series of blog posts on her blog. And we planned to convert it into an eBook if it did well. The blog posts were quite popular, and the overall feedback was very positive. Hence I started creating the eBook.
