RTWA 3: A short visit to Fatehpur Sikri
Today was supposed to be a just long drive day. I wanted to cover maximum distance today and reach Allahabad. Since App wanted to do something before and as ready to get up early enough, we planned to do Fatehpur Sikri before we start to Allahabad. So we wokeup early and reached Fatehpur Sikri by 7. Since we had an yellow board we weren't allowed to go up till the monuments. We parked at least a kilo meter away with the other commercial vehicles and walked from there.
Fatehpur Sikri was built by Akbar. It served as his capital city for about 15 years. The monument complex has royal palaces, mosque, utility buildings and others buildings required by a royal family.
As we entered the monument area we were welcomed by this majestic entrance for the mosque. The complex also has a darga. This is not part of ASI. Anyone can visit and there is no entrance fee or ticket.
There is a walk way next to darwaza that will take you to the actual royal complex which has palaces, meeting rooms, treasury etc. Here are some picture from there. Its worth hiring a guide.
We finished our tour by 10. Then we had breakfast from a near by restaurant. Our 500+ kms plus drive to Allahabad started after that. It took us about 9 hours including breaks to reach Allahabad. I was so tired that I wrote this bog post and then slept.
