Weekly Notes 51/2024
We reached Thrissur on Sunday. It took us about 9.5 hours with two 40-minute breaks. The roads between Attibele and Salem are under construction at various points. So you will need to be careful about diversions. I listened to a couple of episodes of HAM Radio Workbench. Since Android phones can't stream sound to a different target while connected to the car using Android Auto, Either everyone listens to what you want to listen to, or you will have to have a different phone. Otherwise, the drive was uneventful.
- I was productive in the first half of the week and took the second half off to visit Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) for a friend's wedding. We're heading back to Thrissur tomorrow. The drive was pretty, even though it took about 8 hours for 320 km. Surprisingly, I met Praveen (Now at The Hindu) from Infyblogs. I always wonder about the Infyblogs community and what it would have been today if it had continued.
- Echo and Pathu were with their grandparents at Thrissur; It was their first time with them without us being there. Apparently, they have behaved well.
- Uma doesn't get any screen time other than for some video calls. It also means no screen time for us. I think, in general, it's a good thing that has happened to us.
- Echo's blood test is clean. He has recovered. But he still seems to be a little tired. It might take another week or so.
- On the website - I added details to my PMR446 walkie-talkie wiki page. I also got a Motorola T82 Extreme set for us. I am yet to use it enough to write a review.
- Folks have been using "scientific" as a generic term even though it has a specific meaning. So, I was looking for simple material that could be sent to people; I found Steps of the Scientific Method by Science Buddies. They have a simple way of explaining the Scientific Method using videos and experiments with kids. I think it's helpful to adults, too, as a starting point.
Maybe the Ruizu for podcasts / audiobooks?
I use AntennaPod on my phone for podcasts, mostly because it needs daily syncing, and I am too lazy to connect Ruizu everyday. For books Ruizu could be useful, but I am finding it hard to find DRM free books.
Library Genesis has audiobooks.
