Weekly Notes 02/2025
Echo is finally doing well, though winter is not great for him. He is active, eating and sleeping well. Though his urinary problems continue, they do not threaten his day-to-day activities.
- I started using a standing table during COVID-19, and it's still a habit. I plan to mix it up a bit this year, alternating between standing and sitting. Another habit we picked up during COVID was sticking to two meals a day. We still do this, except when traveling. Now, we've moved dinner to 6:30 PM instead of 9 PM so we can eat with Uma.
- Making a list of games that I have and play. I am making a list so I can share it with friends. It's still a work in progress.
- I posted a public note about changes to NMG. It's not a big change, but I thought making a public note would show the evolution of NMG. This was in preparation for opening up the application form next week. There is a public email list called Friends of NMG if you want to discuss things related to NMG.
- I spent an hour talking to Anand about the courses we teach at IITM/BSc and also, in general, the tools we use for working these days. I think we spent more time than we had blocked. I need to schedule regular calls at least once in six months.
- Thanks to ping by Jeff, I added and updated the blogring, including my Weekly-Notes subscriptions (as JSON). I will have an OPML version and a planet soon.
- I had to drive a few (single-digit) kilometers within the city twice this week. It wasn't fun. Next time, I'll take an auto or taxi.
- A skill that I want to focus on and learn in 2025 is marketing and sales. I am bad, and I want to reach a place where I am at least above average.
- I am experimenting with Work Profile on Android using Shelter App; it provides an isolated space to install or clone apps. That way, I can keep some work apps separate from personal apps. Also, it allows you to set a different PIN/password for it. It could also be useful in scenarios where someone in the family shares the phone with you. It's like having different accounts on the same computer.
- I started reading the book - Do Interesting - Notice. Collect. Share. by Russell Davies. I like the premise of it. I will write more once I finish it.
- If slavery (or bonded labor) was legal in India, I am sure the current bunch of corporate leaders would have supported it and made it compulsory because almost anything can be justified as making economic/development sense. At least, that's what I sense when I hear when so-called leaders speak. I am not in what other world; forcing people to work 90 hours per week, making them work compulsory on Sundays, and keeping them away from parents, spouses, and children makes sense. BTW, Bonded labor, though illegal, is still prevalent in unorganized sectors in India.
