Nagarathna Memorial Grant – 2025 Open for Applications
Welcome to the eighth edition of the NMG grant. It seems like it started yesterday, and it's already been eight years. I am grateful to friends (Nemo, Gangadhar, Shweta, Divya) and other anonymous folks who have joined me on this journey with additional grant support. We do have some of them supporting us this year, too. Also, we have separated the NMG-Edu as a separate grant. That allows all the money as part of this grant to go to projects, which I think is great.
I am also thankful to all the applicants and grantees who have been part of this journey in one way or another. It's one of those things I do every year that makes me very happy.
The NMG/2025 grant application is open. The application is a simple google form. It takes five minutes. You can look at previous grantees on the project page for inspiration. Remember, nothing is out of scope. Apply, Share.
Started in 2018, Nagarathna Memorial Grant is an yearly, no strings attached grant of one lakh rupees (~$1400). It's a micro-grant targeted at everyone. The reason for grant could be anything as long it's meaningful to you and the people around you. Though I prefer free and open source or creative commons projects. It's not a must.
Please remember the important dates; the application is a simple google form.
- January 15, 2025 – The application opens
- March 15, 2025 – The application closes
- April 14, 2025 – Announcement of results

Additional Notes #
- There is a small change on how grant is handled from this year onwards.
- 2025-01-20 - Gangadhar(25K), Shweta/Ashwini(50K) and Divya(50K) will join this year too. That will make the grant 2.25 Lakhs.
- 2025-01-20 - We have Kamala Manoharan (100K), Y(30K), S(10K), and T(10K) joining this year; this will bring the grant to 3.75 Lakhs.
- 2025-01-21 - Nemo(50K). So the total grant money is 4.25 Lakhs.
