Weekly Notes 13/2024

We wanted to celebrate Echo's birthday. We couldn't celebrate on the 20th, so we decided to make it extra special. We took advantage of Uma's grandparents being at home and spent the first half of Sunday with Echo celebrating and walking around in Cubbon Park. It was just the three of us: Anju, Echo, and Me. It has been such a long time since just three of us did something. He was so happy, and we were too. Anju baked a cake for him, which he happily ate. We also took lots of goofy pictures. Here are some non-goofy ones.

  • I have wanted to create a bot for daily Vachana posting for a long time. This week, I did that. You can follow the mastodon bot @vachana@social.thej.in. I used the existing node-red infra to do this with the help of the node-red-contrib-mastodon package. The node-red is on my LAN. So, if my home loses internet, the bot will go offline. Since the bot posts only once daily, it should be fine.
  • I watched the movie Manjumal Boys. It reminded me of 127 Hours a bit, but it's mostly about friends rather than the person itself. I liked the way it was shot and edited. It's a good watch.
  • We are in Bali, Indonesia. We arrived this morning after a seven-hour direct Indigo flight from Bangalore. It was their first flight, and so was Uma's. Uma slept very little on the flight. We mostly walked around the flight at night or spent time near the kitchen. She didn't make any noise as long as we were doing it, so I must have done that for three hours at least. It feels like I have run a half marathon. Finally, she slept early in the morning. Flight attendants were very nice to Uma and us. Even our neighbor in the 3-seat row was a nice person. I lost some sleep, but it was a pleasant first flight.
  • The first thing I did after reaching Villa Kampung Kecil was to install Gojek and order some Nasi Goreng. I love it. We slept for some time and did some grocery shopping in the evening. One of my favorite things to do is to buy and try instant noodles and instant Kapi (like Kapal Api). We are here till the middle of next week.
