Weekly Notes 45/2025
We are in November already. Only about seven weeks are left in 2025. It’s been running fast, but at least it seems to be ending on a good note with Zohran Mamdani winning NYC. The Bihar elections have started. I don’t know which way it will go, but it’s good to see large turnouts.

- 📢 A very happy Kannada/Karnataka Rajyotsava to all of you. One of my recent discoveries is ‘Noorakke Nooru Karnataka,’ a podcast series by Radio Azim Premji University that celebrates the rich culture, heritage, and values of Karnataka.
- 🥂 It’s been 12 years. I don’t think this page /w needs to be behind a password anymore. We spent some time at my favorite Hotel, Taj West End. I love the heritage wing. It’s an oasis in the city. Trippy Goat Cafe is not a new discovery; I had been there years ago for pizza, but this time it was for coffee. They have good V60 drip coffee. I also like that they are happy to have pets. We also got lunch at Izanagi Japanese Restaurant. I think it was just above average.
- 🏆 You don’t often get a chance to listen to Nobel Prize Winners live. But this week, it was possible for Bangaloreans at IISc.
- 🕸 If you love Flask but want some batteries included, try Hyperflask. It brings together many Flask, JS, CSS, and HTML/X addons. However, I would still recommend Django as a batteries-included web framework. I love both Flask and Django and use them in different contexts. I continue to write about Dramatiq, which integrates well with both of these when you need background tasks in web applications.
- 🤸 I continue to work out (P.T) at Stairs twice a week. I am also playing once a week. I want to work out three times a week and play twice a week. It has been challenging to find time, but that’s the goal.
- 📄 We renewed our health insurance. We have had health insurance for more than a decade now, with no claims, not even once. Even then, insurance companies are unfriendly and treat you like they are doing a favor. I need to spend more time finding the best amongst the worst for the next renewal. The portability option isn’t as easy as it is described.
- 📚 I read a paper by V. Geetha and S. V. Rajadurai titled Dalits and Non-Brahmin Consciousness in Colonial Tamil Nadu, in which I came across Ayothidas Pandithar’s claim that Thiruvalluvar was a Buddhist thinker whose work, the Tirukkural, was misappropriated and distorted by Hindu/Brahmin scholars. I need to read more, but it seems well-grounded.
