Weekly Notes 51/2025

It’s been a hectic week with lots of things running in parallel, and some are set to conclude in a few weeks. It is the last 20% to 30% of the work that takes the most time. I think I will be swamped through the holidays.

Day 6: drawing shapes with pencil and brush, snow :) 20251217
  • I started #30DaysOfWatercoloring, where I am trying to learn painting with watercolors with the help of YouTube guides. I added a calendar-based tracker for fun. I have done nine paintings in nine days. Though I missed one day, I did two on another day, so now they are even.
  • A friend suggested I read Saint Young Men, a Japanese slice-of-life comedy manga series by Hikaru Nakamura. It’s about the lives of Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha living as roommates in an apartment in Tokyo.
  • I did two P.T. sessions at Stairs and one game night this week. I used to play only with friends, but now I’m opening up to playing with new folks and even strangers. Here’s my Playo profile if you want to add me.
  • Sandeeps (yes, two of them) and I went for a walk in the GKVK campus. We did a small casual walk, but you can actually do a good 10KM walk if you plan, and it’s pretty.
  • Uma’s exposure to smartphones is limited to making video calls to friends and family. It isn’t easy to manage her interest in smartphones as she sees them everywhere. Until now, we have been able to resist by making her do other activities that include some digital but not exactly screens. SmartphoneFreeChildhood’s journal has some pointers, if you have any tips, send it to me.
  • Here is a simple yet interesting crowdsourcing project of bird songs from around the world. In the modern world, your whole life is on someone else’s computer, aka cloud, and if they lock you out for some reason, it’s very difficult to get it back, and one’s life almost comes to a standstill. It’s for this reason that at least some parts of one’s online life should be with small players or self-hosted.
Pathu petting teddy, its a rare scene usually she is destroying them.
