Weekly Notes 08/2026

Uma loves singing. Recently, she has been humming ಬಾನ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೂರ್ಯ ಜಾರಿಹೋದ. I wanted to create a karaoke version of it. Since the video already had the lyrics embedded, all I needed to do was separate the audio into vocals and instrumentals using musicara. And then remove the original audio and add the instrumental audio using Pitivi. It works. Uma can’t read or do karaoke, but at least I can sing with music to hide my bad voice. Do you have a process for creating karaoke songs? I love the lyrics of the song BTW.

• There was an error in my EPIC card. I have submitted Form 8 online. Let’s see how soon it gets fixed so I can get a new EPIC card.
• Two workouts this week, I have made good progress. No games this week as everyone was busy. Maybe Sunday.
• I test rode a KTM Adventure 390 X. It’s an adventure tourer, looks bigger than it feels. Once you start riding it, it handles very well and is very comfortable. I might have to take it for a full-day ride to form a well-rounded opinion. It’s tall for me at 825 mm seat height, but not unmanageable. I know many riders who ride bigger, taller machines comfortably. I plan to test ride others in the same class. Suggest some good touring motorcycles.
• I am quite excited about my upcoming single-day ride. It’s a long ride that will test me. I am taking CB350 on this ride.
• I drove from APU to Kammasandra and then back to the city on Saturday. It was like a trip around half the city. Internal village roads were traffic-free but are not in good condition. These are the villages that are just 30 km from Bengaluru city.
• At APU, they use Moodle. It uses CodeRunner plugin to run coding questions. At IITM, we have built a very flexible and powerful coding environment for Seek. So I had to check it out. CodeRunner internally uses jobe, which can be run as JobeInABox Docker container; it feels simple compared to what we have built. But that is also its power. You can bring it up on your machine, and you’ll have a sandboxed coding environment available through a RESTful API (pdf docs) for fun and profit.
• I received a DMCA takedown notice for the covid19_stories_archive, which was hosted on Render. I didn’t have time to respond. So it’s offline currently. I will respond and bring it back in a few days.
• Work has been going well, but it has been hectic. I am hoping it will get back to normal in Feb. Let’s see.
• We have an additional supporter for NMG/2026. Pradeep, who is adding 20K to the grant. The grant total now is 5.2 lakhs.
