The Year that was 2016
2016 in one word was challenging. It was huge mix of sadness and happiness. I must say this is one of those years that changed some things in me forever and for good. In that way it was a good year. I wish you all the very best for 2017.
Some things that happened in my life in 2016.
- Amma is no more
- Good year for book reading. I wanted to read a book every week. I almost did that except for couple of months. Last count was 40. 12 short of 52. I wrote notes about some of the books I liked.
- Max is with us. We are very happy to have him.
- Started contributing to Open Street Map on a regular basis. I am more focused on adding PoIs and bringing them to Indian languages to it could be used by service providers in India. Also wrote a series of articles on state of maps in India.
- We spent three weeks in South Korea. I ❤️ the people, food and electronics. There are tons of blog posts in draft mode to complete. Good news is I have published quite a few already, so go read :)
- I spend most my time with Mavrix and Data{Meet}. I also contribute to OpenCity.in and BuzzIndia
- I spent two years at Google contributing to NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) MOOC platform. It was great experience. There are tons of great courses for free from the best professors in India. Try it. I miss free food at Google.
- Nearly 600 contributions on Github in 2016. Quite happy about it
- Became an Associate member of FSF. Software freedom is more important now than ever.
- I ❤️ CrossFit. I will write in detail later
- This blog has a FaceBook page now
- Started tracking things I am proud of and grateful for
Wishing you a great year ahead Thej!
