Weekly Notes 28/2024

This is post number 104 of Weekly Notes, marking two years since Weekly Notes 29/2022. I've received more messages about these posts than any others from friends, family, and strangers.

It all started in 1999 when I was in engineering college. I regularly wrote physical letters to friends studying outside Bengaluru, sharing life updates, college happenings, etc. Later, while living on a different continent, I sent email updates.

By 2007, social media took over our conversations, and I loved it as a communication tool. But around 2014, it began to fall apart, and by 2020, I lost interest. Throughout this period, I continued blogging, though not as often as I should have.

In 2022, I began Weekly Notes as part of my blogging. It feels like writing life-update letters to friends again. I am sure that's the reason for consistency. Thank you for reading and messaging me. Please send me a link to your weekly notes. If it's not already on my feed reader, I'll add and read it for sure.

  • Uma and I took a stroll on Saturday and landed at Light Room. I got P. Sainath's new book, Unknown Heroes of India's Freedom Struggle, is a graphic narrative. It is meant for kids but equally good for adults. We have done this a couple of times this week, taking a stroll and ending up at a book or coffee shop.
  • It was yet another hectic week, but it was a good one. I closed almost all pending tasks. Hopefully, work will return to normal next week, though it seems the coming quarter will be exciting and busy.
  • Uma has started calling me appa 🔗. Now I think she knows what it means.
  • I will be at Fifth Elephant tomorrow and will run a BOF along with Chaitanya. I am going to be at IndiaFOSS/2024 in September. Do ping me if you are going to be there. We can get some coffee.
  • Aparna is no more. For most of us who grew up in Karnataka, she was the voice of DD Kannada and the default host. Now she is probably known for her voice in Namma Metro 🔗.

I was saddened to hear the news about Aparna. Growing up she was the default anchor for TV programs as well. I would not like a program if she did not host it.
I had no idea she was the voice of Namma Metro. Never gave much thought to whose voice it was.
